Born in Madrid in 1922, it currently is one of the best known and most important Spanish Expressionism painters and one of the highest quote portraitists.
He began his career doing studies in the school of painting, the painter Vázquez Díaz addressed in Madrid, being partner of painters of the prestige of San Francisco José, Carlos Pascual de Lara, Martinez Novillo, or García Ochoa. He was one of the founders of the school of Vallecas

TAS touring several Galician cities, reaching Minagon, small Asturian village of the municipality of Boal, located to the left margin of the Navia River in which Luis Álvarez was born and which still resided some of their relatives.
Stay in Minagon originated the first summer in Navia, and since 1956 returns every summer to the town of Navia, which acquires a floor for housing and another for study.
In 1975 the municipality of Navia nominated him adoptive son. The work of Álvaro Delgado has a large portion dedicated to annotate the geography, psychology and typology of the Asturian Western man. It has renewed our landscape, adding a continuity of rigorous and synoptic expressionism. Alvaro Delgado has become the modern Asturian painting landscape.
The recognition of his work and the affective and emotional connotations with the Western Asturias, led to the national contest of Luarca painting to devote you in well-deserved tribute in its Edition number XVI, in 1986.
On November 9, 1993 agreed unanimously by the full del Ayuntamiento de Valdés give its name to the rural schools of the C.R.A. II. Later in 1995, coinciding with the celebration of an Antalogica exhibition that took place simultaneously in the villages of Navia and Luarca, culminated with the inauguration of the C.R.A. shared by the municipalities of Navia (Anleo classrooms and Andes) and Valdés (aulas de Barcia, Moanes, El Vallín, and tour) and that bears his name in a manner so deserved. In addition he was appointed adoptive son of the City Council of Valdes.
He held his first exhibition in Madrid in 1945, having held more than a hundred individual exhibitions to date in various Spanish cities, as well as in Buenos Aires, New York, Montevideo, Paris, London, Rome...
.He participated in such prestigious Biennials as those of Venice in 1950 and 1964, Havana in 1954, Alexandria in 1955, Sao Paulo in 1959 and 1963.
It is represented in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madrid, in the Museum of Fine Arts of San Fernando, as well as in many other Spanish museums (among which are the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias or in the Museo Casa – Natal de. Jovellanos).outside of Spain his work is represented in Museums of Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Vatican City, Addis Abbeba, Florence...
It has obtained the highest awards, culminating in the award of the Gold Medal from the Madrid City Council and the Gold Medal for Fine Arts. .since 1973 he has been a member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

He has been a firm follower of Benjamín Palencia, a member of the Vallecas School. .in 1950 it was part of the Spanish Art Exhibition in Cairo and the Venice Biennale. Since 1973 he has been a member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. .since 1988 he has been a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 2003 he is selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the program "Spanish art abroad". .That same year he exhibited at the Spanish Institute in New York. His work covers a great diversity of themes: landscapes, still lifes, genre paintings and portraits. .in 1942 he wrote the book «On the Vallecas School» coinciding with his separation from it.
